Hitting a Home Run in the Kitchen with a Knife

You can’t hit a home run swinging a golf club or knit a sock using a twig.

In the kitchen you can’t properly chop an onion or anything else with a small, skinny steak knife.

A Chef’s Knife Is THE Most Important Tool In The Kitchen

A proper chef’s knife is a cook’s single most important tool.

Yet it’s the knife home cooks rarely pull from the wooden block because they are intimidated by the size of the blade, 8”-10” long and a1 1/2” in width.  But this is the workhorse knife in the kitchen to chop, slice, mince, and trim.

The Best Knife – A Sharp One!

There’s no need to invest in an expensive chef knife at first, just a sharp one. When I was in culinary school, I cooked at home with a chef’s knife from a camping kit because it was the sharpest knife I had.  I saved my most treasured chef knife for school work.

Take good care of your knife.  Wash it by hand.

Japanese chef Masaharu Morimoto once said, “Japanese chefs believe our soul goes into our knives once we start using them.  You wouldn’t put your soul in a dishwasher!”

A Great Recipe To Practice Your Knife Skills – Crunchy Apple Salad With Manchego Cheese

Here’s a delicious and fun recipe for you to practice using your chef knife:  Crunchy Apple Salad with Manchego Cheese.  It’s all about the chop – apples, carrot, celery, walnuts, and cranberries.  Top it with an apple cider vinegar dressing soothing spices, topped with shredded Manchego cheese.

You’ll Be Hitting Home Runs In No Time With More Time For What’s Really Important – Sharing The Table

Once you master your chef knife, you’ll be hitting home runs in the kitchen in no time.

You’ll work faster, more efficiently, and effectively leaving more time for what’s really important – sharing the table with friends and family.
